Sustainable - to carry on an activity so that it can continue indefinitely by activities that provide for a perpetual circle without significan loss.
Mining - extracting resources from the earth usually from below ground.
Minerals are not being put 'back' into the earth, and even if recycling becomes a very fine art in the future, the act of mining is a finite global prospect, and hence not sustainable.
